When you're dedicated to skiing or riding all season long, little things make a big difference when it comes to comfort, safety, and durability. The Smith Vantage helmet is loaded with tech that makes a difference. Zonal Koroyd™ complements MIPS® for energy-absorbing impact protection to give you confidence while exploring in or out of bounds. The hybrid shell enhances day-to-day durability and includes a full 21 vents with dual adjustability that lets you fine-tune airflow to meet the conditions. As for fit, The Vantage uses the BOA® 360 Fit System for the ability to micro-adjust the size around your whole head with the turn of dial. Add the proven Smith AirEvac™ tech for a fog-free goggle interface, and you have a helmet to match your dedication.
Dave was a great help selecting a helmet.
My primary use case for this helmet is fall/winter cycling, although I will also use it for skiing. I am a casual recreational skiier who typically rents equipment, and would prefer to no longer rent helmets due to covid.
The helmet features a comfortable padded chin strap, removable padded ear pads, and multiple vents on the front and back halves, which can be opened or closed with one hand.
I look forward to trying it out on the slopes this winter season. So far it is very comfortable, well built, highly adjustable, and both warm and breathable on some early morning bike rides in about +4 C. I'll likely be wearing it 4-5 times per week as the weather gets colder.
Safety was my highest priority when selecting this helmet.
I was looking for something in a brighter colour, not something that will easily blend in with surroundings, like black, grey, or white. The Saffron(Yellow)/Black colour Smith Vantage MIPS helmet fit the bill.
This is one of the priceier models out there, but for that price tag, you get one of very few helmets actually tested and certified for both Ski/Snowboard use, as well as cycling use, meeting the following certifications:
ASTM F 2040 - Non-motorized Recreational Snow Sports Standard
CE EN 1077:2007 CLASS B - Alpine Ski and Snowboard Standard
CPSC - US Cycling Standard
CE EN1078 - European Cycling Standard
On top of the extensive certification list, MIPS and Koroyd are two relatively new safety features that are making their way into helmets. These new safety features do not necessarily make a safer helmet, they "...may reduce the risk with certain types of impact".
Regardless, the extra safety focused features are undeniably better than conventional helmet designs, and definitely a reason to upgrade if you have an older helmet. These safety features don't really add any noticeable bulk compared to a conventional helmet, and don't impede visibility.
Overall an exceptional helmet with excellent features, from an wonderful store with amazing staff.
